What is compassion? Why do we need it now? How is it cultivated? The Cal Turner Program for Moral Leadership is pleased to offer this timely workshop. Participants will explore elements of compassion such as mindfulness, loving-kindness for self and others, embracing our shared common humanity, and integration into daily life. Join us to engage in didactic discussions, experiential exercises, guided meditations, visualization, private reflection, and poetry. Heavy appetizers will be provided on Friday afternoon, and light breakfast and lunch will be provided on Saturday.

William Thiele, PhD, is a Cultivating Compassion Teacher certified by CCARE and the Compassion Institute. He is founding spiritual director of The School for Contemplative Living in New Orleans; adjunct professor at Loyola University; and a Louisiana licensed professional counselor in private practice. Thiele is also the author of Monks in the World: Seeking God in a Frantic Culture, and hosts “A Contemplative Path” podcast on iTunes. He has a PhD in counseling and an M.Div. See him in this YouTube video: "Monks in the World.”

Venerable Thich Thien Tri will lead mindfulness and compassion meditations interspersed throughout the workshop, including chanting, sitting, and standing meditations. He is the founder of Zen and Mind Family in New Orleans, and completed his education and training as a Buddhist monk in Vietnam. He speaks in Buddhist communities across the United States.
