Popular actor and Blair musicologist Jim Lovensheimer presents his third annual one-man show, this time exploring the songs of legendary Belgian songwriter, singer and actor Jacques Brel. Although Brel often contrasted his exquisite and sensitive romanticism with a stark, if poetic, cynicism, his lyrics are also full of self-deprecating humor. And all of them reveal an actor’s approach to song as theater. Some of these songs will be performed in French and Dutch (supertitles provided), but most will be in English translations by Eric Blau and Mort Shuman, as well as new translations by Lovensheimer, who will be working with a quartet of some of Blair’s most talented student musicians.
