"Impulsivity as a Transdiagnostic Feature of Psychopathology"

The general factor of psychopathology (Lahey et al. 2012), or P-factor, using the terminology of Caspi et al. (2014), refers to a latent factor of psychopathology associated with the nonspecific risk for, or expression of, all prevalent forms of psychopathology.  Since the introduction of the concept, there has been interest in identifying the psychological correlates of this general factor. I will present evidence that perceived attentional problems and impulsivity are important correlates of the general factor of psychopathology.  The implications of these associations for clinical research and practice will be discussed.
