"When and How to use Qualitative and Mixed Methods in Your Research"

This presentation will be an overview of how and when to use qualitative and mixed methods in in clinical research.  I will present an overview of  qualitative methods (interviews, focus groups, photovoice, direct observation), describe the methodology  step-by-step (data collection, coding, and analysis), and illustrate this kind of work with examples from several different studies.  Examples will include formative work for intervention planning, mixed methods to evaluate intervention impacts, and cognitive interviews to improve the quality of assessment tools.
