"Invariant glial cells densities in mammalian brains"   While highly variable neuronal densities are found across both brain structures and species, there is a little variation on densities of non-neuronal cells. This talk will discuss new findings using specific nuclear markers to each glial cell subtype that show that across mammals, brain structure of similar mass, whatever the structure and whatever the species, are composed of the same numbers of microglia, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes.  Among the many implications of these unexpected findings is that the addition of glial cells to mammalian brains must be governed by evolutionary conserved developmental mechanisms.
