The Blakemore Trio

Amy Dorfman, piano, Carolyn Huebl, violin, Felix Wang, cello

The magical intimacy of Franz Schubert’s music serves as the pillar for The Blakemore Trio’s spring program. The Notturno in E-flat major, D.897, has qualities reminiscent of an evening guitar serenade, with muted and tender melodies unfolding in the strings. The trio then journeys to a fantastical 2009 work by Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen titled Traumlieder (Dreamsongs). Abrahamsen draws from two earlier compositions, 10 Piano Studies and Six Pieces for Horn Trio, to concoct this trio. The program ends with Schubert’s Trio in B-Flat major, of which Robert Schumann said, “One glance at Schubert’s Trio and the troubles of our human existence disappear and all the world is fresh and bright again.”
