Vandy Karma presents Diwali Puja 2017. Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a Hindu holiday that celebrates the victory of light over darkness. On Diwali night, Hindus light up diyas (or oil lamps) inside or outside their homes and participate in a puja or prayer ceremony, typically for the Goddess Lakshmi.
On Friday, November 3rd come out to learn more about the rich traditions and significance of this ancient Hindu festival, hear personal stories on what Diwali means to members of the Vanderbilt community, make your own clay diya, and be a part of a short puja! If you are participating in SACE's Diwali Showcase later in the month, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the cultural and spiritual holiday that the show is named after! WE WILL ALSO HAVE SPARKLERS THIS YEAR!!!!! Finally, enjoy a delicious FREE catered Indian dinner. Feel free to dress up!
