Move Closer: An Exploration of the Tango

Tuesday, October 24, 2017,
  • Location: Central & Divinity Libraries • 419 21St Ave S • Nashville, TN 37240
  • Room: Community Room

Move Closer—an exploration of the tango, its illustrious history, and its place in Nashville—will take place at the Central Library's Community Room. The Nashville Opera, Vanderbilt's Center for Latin American Studies at Vanderbilt, and the Jean and Alexander Heard Library are collaborating on this very special event.

John Holmes, CEO and artistic director for the Nashville Opera, will dive into the company's upcoming production of Maria de Buenos Aires, an Argentinian tango opera with a surrealist narrative. Paula Covington, Latin American and senior lecturer for the Center for Latin American Studies, will introduce the library's extensive tango collections.

Following these presentations, Vanderbilt's Tango Club will perform and teach some steps of the dance during the reception.

For planning purposes, RSVPs to the Nashville Opera are appreciated:
