Tennessee Student Journalist Collective - Opening Workshop

WHO: Workshop will be led by award-winning journalist Sandra Dawson Long Weaver; the following guest speakers have been confirmed:

  • Michael Anastasi, vice president of news, USA Today – Tennessee
  • David Plazas, opinion engagement editor, The Tennessean
  • Rosetta Miller-Perry, publisher and CEO of The Tennessee Tribune
  • Ian Morrison, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Media & External Affairs, Vanderbilt University
  • Dr. Karen Dunlap, president emeritus of The Poynter Institute

WHAT: An opportunity for student editors and advisers of student-run publications throughout the state to collaborate and produce stories relevant to their shared on-campus experiences. This opening workshop will give participants access to local experts that can help advance their careers and prepare them for covering hot-topic issues such as sexual assault or financial aid policy.

WHEN: Saturday, September 30th, 9am-2pm

WHERE: Kissam Multipurpose room C210

WHY: Cross-state collaboration with other student journalists; career advancement; exclusive connections to local journalism experts
