Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You
Eleanor Roosevelt’s timeless instruction has inspired generations of women to advance the cause of equality. In music, the role of women can be traced to the earliest medieval chants, and continues to expand the boundaries of creative expression in the modern world. The Vanderbilt Choirs will explore the music of composers representing three centuries. You’ll hear chants by Hildegard von Bingen alongside contemporary music inspired by her innovations. We will perform several choral works of Lili Boulanger, who paved the way for female composers in the 20th century. Finally, we'll explore new choral works by some of today’s brightest young composers, including Abbie Betinis, Jocelyn Hagen, Caroline Shaw and Moira Smiley.
Presented with gratitude to the parents of a Blair School student for their generous support
