Miles Davis’ ‘Birth of the Cool’

The Blair Jazz Faculty present the music from Miles Davis’ classic nonet recording, Birth of the Cool. Recorded in 1949 and 1950, this music was so far ahead of its time that the record was not released until 1957, when the “cool” jazz style became more defined. Now, 60 years after the album’s release, we present this music live, with trumpet professor Jose Sibaja playing the role of Miles Davis. Sibaja is joined by an all-star cast of Blair Faculty: Jeff Coffin, alto sax, Ryan Middagh, baritone sax, Leslie Norton, horn, Roland Barber, trombone; Gil Long, tuba, Bruce Dudley, piano, Roger Spencer, bass, and Derrek Phillips, drums.

Presented with gratitude to the Sartain Lanier Family Foundation Inc. for its generous support of the Blair School
