Vanderbilt University School of Nursing's Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of the Senior Associate Dean of Academics invite VUSN faculty and staff to walk a mile in the shoes of those facing poverty by participating in the Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS). This three-hour experience provides participants with the opportunity to assume the role of a low- income family member living on a limited budget. During the simulation, participants must provide for their families and maintain their homes for one month during the course of four 15-minute “weeks”. The simulation enables participants to rethink the challenges that millions of low income individuals must face and discuss the potential for change within their local community.
VUSN Faculty and staff participation in the Poverty Simulation is required.
This is the first of two offerings in 2019 for VUSN faculty and staff.
